At the Institute

Afoa has been a Chartered Accountant (CA) since 2004 and is an active registered member of the Institute. She has been a Council Member of the Samoa Institute of Accountants since March 2023.

Career

Afoa has worked for 17 years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Samoa) Trust, the temporal affairs arm of the Church responsible for Samoa and American Samoa. She has served as Leader Support and Country Manager for the past seven years, and before that was Finance Manager for the same organisation for ten years. She is also the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Church of Jesus Christ (Samoa) Trust.

Before working for the Church, she was a public servant for ten years in various departments, including Customs, Inland Revenue, the Audit Office and the Treasury Department. She worked for an international organisation as Finance Manager for three years before joining Church employment.

Board roles

Afoa was a member of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of Samoa for eight years (2012 to 2020) and has served as a Board Director of Samoa Shipping Services since 2020. She continues her service to government through her responsibilities as a board member.

As a senior executive of more than 15 years, she has substantial experience in financial management, internal and external auditing, corporate management, budgeting, financial analysis, project management, human resource management and relationship development, and loves to build relationships of trust with people.
