Accounting Technician (AT) — A Pathway to Professional Recognition
The Accounting Technician designation is a professional credential awarded by the Samoa Institute of Accountants, designed to recognise individuals who have built their accounting expertise through years of hands-on experience in the field. It is ideal for professionals working in bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and auditing support roles across both the public and private sectors.
To qualify, candidates must hold a diploma with a major in accounting and have accumulated at least 10 years of relevant work experience involving the preparation or auditing of financial statements. Applicants must be Samoan citizens or permanent residents and reside in Samoa at the time of application. Good character and a commitment to upholding the Institute's Rules and Code of Ethics are also essential requirements.
As an AT member, you gain the right to use the protected "AT" designation, access to the Institute's professional network, and ongoing development through the mandatory 30 hours of annual continuing professional development. While the AT pathway does not lead to a certificate of public practice, it provides meaningful professional standing and credibility for those contributing to the accounting profession from within organisations.
Applications typically open once a year through the Institute.
