Before working for the church, she was a public servant for 10 years in various departments which included Customs, Inland Revenue, Audit Office and then Treasury Department. She worked for an international organization as Finance Manager for 3 years before joining church employment.

Afoa has been an member of the Board of Directors for the Development Bank of Samoa for 8 years (2012 to 2020) and currently serving as an effective Board Director for the Samoa Shipping Services for the last 4 years (2020 to date). She vehemently serves and continues her service to government through her responsibilities as a board member.

As a senior executive of more than 15 years, she has sizable experience in financial management, internal and external auditing, corporate management, budgeting, financial analyst, project management, human resource management and relationship development and superb customer service and loves to build relationships of trust with people.
